Sonya Reynolds Homan, 86, of Spring, Texas, died Saturday, April 16, 2022, surrounded by loved ones in her home of 50 years in the Northampton subdivision. Sonya was known to all by her love of her children and grandchildren, poodles, dancing, singing, tennis and all things red (including roses and hearts).
Sonya was born December 9, 1935, in Elk City, Oklahoma to Robert and Tensie Reynolds and grew up primarily in Lawton, Oklahoma. After graduating from Lawton High School in 1954, her love of dancing took her to New York City where she was a Radio City Rockette before touring the country as a dancer on shows featuring Elvis Presley, Johnny Carson and others. In the mid 1960's, Sonya performed in the musical theater group that eventually became Theater Under the Stars in Houston.
Sonya's love of poodles began with showing poodles in Lawton, and continued throughout her life with her last poodle, Chiffon, sadly passing in 2017. Living for the past 50 years in the Northampton subdivision, Sonya was active in local tennis leagues until she was 75 years old, often playing in up to three leagues at a time. She was also a member of the Northampton Garden Club and Arts & Crafts Club.
Sonya was a devoted mother and grandmother to her two daughters and two grandchildren, never missing a game, dance recital, swim meet or any other activity they participated in. When her husband, Bob, retired in 1985, they began spending time fishing at their home in Caney Creek, Texas, before he passed in 2001 after 36 years of marriage.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her three brothers, Roggie, Booner and Bobby. She is survived by her two daughters, Tensie (Mike) Axton and Leslie Roberts; grandchildren Ian (Ashley) Roberts and Chloe (Tucker) Roberts; great grandson Henry; and brother Jimmy.
