SIMON REUTHER LATAQUIN of Tomball, Texas went safely home to be with the Lord on Thursday, the 21st of November 2019.

Simon was born in Iloilo City, Philippines on April 21, 1948 to Reynaldo Tolentino Lataquin and Luz Belanio Lataquin.  After finishing his elementary and intermediate school education at LaPaz Elementary School, Iloilo City Philippines, Simon continued to High School and College at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City Philippines, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.  After taking and passing the Professional Licensing Board for Civil Engineers, Simon was employed by Honiron Industries, first as a consultant for their Sugar Central in Negros, Philippines, and later as their site engineer at the U.S. Naval Base in Subic Bay, Philippines. In 1974, he went back to his Alma Mater and became a professor in the College of Technology.  He took MBA courses while teaching.

In April 1976, Simon immigrated to the United States.  He moved to Houston, TX where he worked for various engineering and oil companies, including:  Dresser, Wilcrest, Structures and Systems Engineering, Roberds-Johnson, and finally T&T Engineering where he would eventually retire from in 2016.

In July 1978. Simon married the love of his life, Corazon Alfonso.  They celebrated 41 years of marriage and together raised 3 children in Tomball, TX.  He was a dedicated family man, spending many hours and miles on summer road trips and sharing all his knowledge and wisdom with his children along with a love of music.

Simon was a devout Catholic and a true servant of God.  He and his wife have been parishioners of the Prince of Peace Catholic Community for over 40 years.  Along with his wife and family, he worked as Thanksgiving Site Captain, serving the poor and the homeless, for more than five years. After Hurricane Harvey, Simon and Cora volunteered in the St. Andrew's Center receiving and distributing donated items. Simon served as a member of the Prince of Peace Pastoral Council for multiple terms.  During this time, he also became a member of the Prince of Peace Council of the Knights of Columbus progressing to the rank of third-degree knight.  Simon's friendly and smiling face was a common sight for the parishioners, especially at the 5:00 PM vigil mass on Saturdays. He was very active in other church groups especially the Filipino Ministry and the Simbang Gabi.

Simon was pre-deceased by his parents, Reynaldo and Luz Lataquin.  He is survived by his beloved wife Cora, sons Rey Charles, and his wife  Eleanor Cruz, Rex Cyril and his wife, Carolyn Tran, only daughter, Christine Ruth Lataquin;  8 grandchildren: Aeva, Avelyn, Sophie, Evyn, Felix, Domingo, Vincent and Ryan;  his brothers: Reuben, Reuel and wife Lorna, Michael and wife Victoria, Peter and wife Melvisa, his only sister: Lourdes Lourella Cruz and husband Bernard; several nephews and nieces and extended family, relatives and friends.

A vigil will be held on Monday, 11/25/19, at Prince of Peace Catholic Community (19222 Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070) from 5:30PM-8:30 PM.  Rites for Christian Committal will be on Tuesday 11/26/19 at 10:30AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Community followed by graveside services at Klein Memorial Park, Hwy 2920, Tomball, Texas.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Prince of Peace Catholic Community – Worship Space, in memory of Simon Lataquin (deliver / mail to Prince of Peace, 19222 Hwy 249, Houston, TX 77070)
