Silvia Maria Del Castillo Zamora died of complications of dementia on Saturday February 25 th , 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family, friends and caregivers.
Silvia was born on August 28, 1943 in La Paz, Bolivia to Hugo Del Castillo Morales and Olga Asin Contreras de Del Castillo. She graduated from St Andrews High School in La Paz, where she met the love of her life, Luis Fernando Zamora. She received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urbanism from Universidad Mayor de San Andres La Paz, Bolivia, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Houston and a Master of Science from the University of Houston Clear Lake. She married her high school sweetheart, Luis Fernando Zamora, in 1968 and immigrated from Bolivia to the United States in 1970. She had three children, Mauricio, Cecilia and Gabriel.
Silvia was the embodiment of a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She sacrificed her accomplished studies in architecture to support her husband's medical career and to raise her three children. She always called to check-in on loved-ones and provide support. Her generosity was unending. A delicious home-cooked dinner was the daily norm at the Zamora house, and she strived to make her home the place to be. Silvia loved to cook for family; preparing many Bolivian dishes including Saice, Cuñapes and her famous Salteñas. The grandchildren enjoyed homemade butter cookies at all the holidays and always had all the ice cream they could want at Abuela's house. Silvia was also happiest when her house was full! She loved having family come and stay with her and enjoyed giving them tours of Houston and the mall. Silvia's love for travel was great, and she and her family traveled to dozens of countries. And, though she loved visiting so many places, her heart remained true to her native country, and visited her friends and family often in Bolivia. Silvia's Christian faith was an essential part of her life, and she enjoyed Sunday mass at St. Ignatius of Loyola and Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Luis Zamora, and her son, Mauricio Zamora. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pamela Weatherford Zamora, her daughter, Cecilia Zamora Buice and husband, Daniel Buice, her son, Gabriel Zamora and wife, Stephanie Lionberger Zamora. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Nicholas Buice, Trey Zamora, Vanessa Buice, Zachary Buice, Vivian Zamora and Nathaniel Zamora.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church 19222 Tomball Parkway, Houston, Texas 77070 or to HAPS (Houston Area Parkinson's Society) at 2700 Southwest Freeway, Suite 300 Houston, TX 77098.
