SIGNA ANNETTE SEGREST

Loving Mother - Dedicated Educator - Gifted Teacher

Enthusiastic Special Olympics Volunteer - Good Friend

Signa Annette Segrest was born on April 25, 1947 and passed from this life on March 23, 2025.  She graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston and then earned a degree in education at Stephen F Austin State University.  Signa's childhood goal to become a teacher was fulfilled with over fifty years of service in the Houston Independent School District.

She served several terms as President of the Houston Teachers' Association skillfully articulating the hearts of the District's teachers and the needs of their students. For a portion of her service in the HISD, Signa served as an Accountability Support and Curriculum Development staff.

By far, what gave Signa the most joy was serving students in her classroom, especially the students whose lives most needed her competent and compassionate contact and skills.

Signa was surprised by the arrival of Jennifer Noel.  The beautiful baby took residence in Signa's heart and home when an adoption agency placed a two-week old Jennifer in her arms.  Over the years Signa became an enthusiastic volunteer with Special Olympics while Jennifer earned many medals and ribbons. In 2015 Special Olympics of Texas recognized Signa's active involvement with an Outstanding Service for Outreach award.

Signa is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Noel; her twin sister, Sandra; and was "Aunt Mimi" to nieces and nephews Diane Rogers, John Frazer (Michelle), David Frazer, and Holly Rastatter (Wayne); great-nephew and niece, Justin Dennison and Ashley Dennison; and also a host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cartis (Jack) and Esther (Juerges) Segrest;  two sisters, Helen Rogers and Jacquelyn Frazer; and brothers-in-law, Weldon Rogers and Clive Frazer.

Graveside services will be privately held.
