Sidney "Al" Alfred Champagne Jr., age 79, was born on April 12, 1946 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and passed away surrounded by his family on December 7, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine (Morris) Champagne and Sidney Alfred Champagne, Sr.

Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jackie, his daughter Kristen Wells (Matt) along with their three children Ellie, Abigail, and Luke, and his daughter Katie Ryan (Jack) along with their three children Mara, Troy, and Bria.

He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he was drafted and spent 2 years serving in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. He returned to LSU in search of more education and was blessed to find his future wife instead. They got married and moved to New Orleans where he started the beginning of his 27 year career as a geophysicist with Amoco.

Al was a devoted, joyful, and wonderful husband, a caring father, and a beloved G-Paw. A tennis, home-renovation, and Whidbey Island roadtrip partner to Jackie, he was also an excellent craftsman, building beautiful wood furniture pieces to better the lives of the people he loved. He was steadfast in his faith and consistently led his family closer to Christ. His wit, staunch support of the LSU tigers, and love of rock music (made before 1972) are things that all those close to him will remember fondly. Retiring while his daughters were still in middle school, he became the fixer, the organizer, the caretaker, and the carpooler. In his later years, he was thrilled to grow into the grandfather role and was the premier family photographer, game-player, and grits-maker. Always remembered, forever loved.

The family would like to thank all those who have reached out and for all the love, support, and prayers that have been felt in these past couple weeks. It has been such a special reminder of the man Al was and his legacy. His loyalty to his family and his faith are things that will always be remembered and carried on.

Services to honor the life of Al will take place at St. Matthias the Apostle Catholic Church in Magnolia, TX. (302 Magnolia Blvd, Magnolia, TX 77355), on January 3, 2026. Rosary will be held at 10:30 AM with Mass to continue at 11:00 AM. Reception to fellowship will immediately follow.
