Shirley Santos Viray, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2020 at the age of 69 at Houston Methodist Hospital - The Woodlands. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Santos and Catalina Bumonglag Santos.
Shirley was born in the Philippines on July 24, 1951. She had a BSN degree in the Philippines, and in 1980 she emigrated to the United States and worked at Jefferson Davis Hospital (now Lyndon B. Johnson hospital) in Labor and Delivery Section. She and four other nurses from the Philippines were the first Filipino nurses that worked in that hospital. After 29 years of service, she retired as an Acting Nurse Manager on August 2011.
Shirley Viray married Ernesto Viray On May 28, 1977, has one daughter Tiffany Turek married to Kevin Turek, and two grandsons Patrick and Eric Turek. She has one brother Wilson Santos and two sisters Edith Canonizado and Honorata Barba.
Shirley was a vibrant, compassionate, creative, honest, hard-working, and selfless person. A very loving wife and a devoted grandmother.
She spent countless hours cooking, gardening, and taking care of the grandchildren. She liked to travel every year to see all the beautiful places around the world. She was very active in the Houston Filipino community organizations' activities.
A visitation and rosary service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX 77379. Due to covid restrictions, the visitation will be divided into 3 sessions -5-6pm, 6-7pm, and 7-8pm. A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11am on Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, followed by burial in Klein Memorial Park on FM 2920 in Tomball, TX. Please RSVP by text message for both the visitation and funeral service to (713)705-0398 and confirm which time spot if attending visitation.
