Shirley Weldon Pyles was born in Sanders, KY on June 18, 1945, and passed away in Spring, Texas on July 5, 2023.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Joey Sommer; her parents, Robert and Esther Weldon; and her sister, Patricia Cottrell and husband Russell.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Franklin C. Pyles; her daughter, Kimberly Sommer and son-in-law, Steven Sommer; grandchildren, Andy Sommer and wife Morgan, Stephanie Scott and husband Kelvin, Cody Sommer, and Christopher Sommer; great-grandchildren, Milo Sommer, Nora Sommer, and Kallan Scott, dearest held sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Shirley joined the Weldon family in the mid-40's and the family welcomed her baby sister, Patty, three years later whom she deeply loved.
She roller-skated her way into Franklin Pyles' heart in the 1950's after meeting him at the local roller rink on a Friday night. After a couple of years of courtship, they married and welcomed their only child, Kim, a couple of years later.
In 70's and 80's, she and Diane took a whirl at disco-dancing lessons they perfected in the living room of her home, managing the family schedule of activities to keep their little daughter's life full, serving as manager of finances, and spending time with family and friends.
Shirley and Frankie moved to Texas in the early 90's where they would welcome five grandkids into their arms over the next sixteen years.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, going on annual summer vacations with the Pyles siblings, working on home projects, caring for her flowers, and sharing life the grandchildren she was so proud of. In the recent years, she was overjoyed to greet her three great grandchildren. During her last family gathering, her heart was filled to learn of another great-grandchild on the way.
Shirley adored her family, loved her friends whom she considered family, and walked hand in hand through life with Frankie- in good times and hard times they were committed to face it all together.
She is loved and her presence in daily life will be greatly missed, but the consolation of knowing she walks with her Savior brings peace beyond measure and anticipation for a sweet day of reunion.
