Shirley Jeanette Durrenberger went home to Jesus peacefully in her sleep on March 7, 2024 at age 93. Shirley had an incredible smile and was loved by everyone she met. Shirley was born to William and Mattie Thompson on June 18th 1930 in Houston Texas. She attended Austin High School and was a member of their Scottish Brigade drill team. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and was a life long fan of the Cougars.

Shirley met her husband Marvin in 1950 at the University of Houston while he was playing football for the Cougars and she worked in the athletic business office. They married in 1952 and went on to have two children, Gary and Randy. They were married for 68 years.

She lived in Houston Texas, St. Paul Minnesota, San Antonio Texas, the City of Spring Valley Texas, Jersey Village Texas, Lake McQueeny Texas, El Jabel Colorado, Georgetown Texas, Spring Texas and Cypress Texas.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, antiquing in Salado and the hill country, and spending time with her grandkids. Shirley held an unwavering faith in God and was a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston, and First Baptist Church of Georgetown Texas. Shirley worked as a school teacher, a secretary for the Southern Pacific Railroad, the secretary to the Superintendent of the Spring Branch Independent School District and secretary to Pete Huddleston of Huddleston and Company. Shirley was preceded by her husband Marvin, her father William and her mother Mattie.

She is survived by her sister Joann Truitt, her son Gary, her son Randy, Randy's wife Holly, granddaughter Katie, and grandson Brett.

The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 3, 2024 at Second Baptist Church Cypress, 29900 Hwy. 290 Cypress, Texas 77433.
