her sisters, Hildegarde Boye and Esther Erdwin

her husband, Jack Bruce

Shirley was born and raised in Chelsea, Oklahoma. She attended St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas where she earned her teaching certificate. Shirley moved to Texas in 1961. She accepted her first teaching position at St. Matthew Lutheran School in Westfield, Tx. Soon after, she met Jack Bruce and married him in 1965. As they raised their three daughters, she continued to share her knowledge and guidance with children and adults. Shirley was a teacher at Our Savior Lutheran School in Houston, Tx. At National Childcare Center, she was the director. In Cy-Fair ISD, she worked with multiple students as a paraprofessional and tutor. Shirley spent 40+ years in education. She also served her Lord and Savior in many ways through the years from Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and member of the Voice and Hand Bell choirs to many other callings.
