Shirley Jean Bivens, born on February 13th 1937, passed away peacefully on March 29th,
2023 at the age of 86. A loving wife, mother, sister and meme—Shirley's life was filled with
love, laughter and a strong devotion to her family. Her warm presence and unwavering love will
be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on through the lives of those who were fortunate
enough to know her, especially her husband Thomas Bivens, known to the family as Pappy.
She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Wendy and Shari. Her unconditional love and
support enabled her children to grow into strong people. Shirley's wisdom, kindness, and
patience were an inspiration to her daughters, who have always admired and cherished her.
Shirley's love extended beyond her immediate family. Her six surviving grandchildren: River,
Tristan, Zoe, Cody, Nick, and Shelby—her two great grandchildren: Willow and Belle—along
with granddaughter, Summer, who she will join in heaven—were the apple of her eye, and she
showered them with the same love and devotion she gave her own children. Her unique bond
with each grandchild and great-grandchild enriched their lives and created memories that will
be cherished for generations to come. Meme's love, guidance, and wisdom will forever be
imprinted on their hearts.
Shirley was a person of many passions. Her love and passion for the environment, like her
mother Edith, was evident in the way she lived—always caring and empathetic towards
everything and everyone. She continuously donated to the World Wildlife Fund, The Rocky
Mountain Institute, and plenty of other charities. She also loved to travel to Colorado with
Pappy, creating unforgettable memories on their many trips together to Divide.
A kind soul, Shirley touched the lives of many. Her ability to connect with others and make
them feel truly seen and appreciated was a gift that she shared freely. Her kindness left a
lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley's faith played an important role in her life. She was a devout member of her church and
found comfort attending Dr. Ed Seay's sermons. Her unwavering faith carried her through many
challenges and provided the foundation for her strength and resilience.
In her passing, we remember Shirley Bivens not only for her love and dedication to her family,
but also for the legacy she leaves behind. As we gather to celebrate her life and mourn her
loss, we find solace in the many memories we shared with her. Her laughter, kindness, and love
will remain forever etched in our hearts.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held at Klein Funeral Home on April 8th, 2023. The family
welcomes friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating the life of this remarkable person.
As we say our final farewells to Meme, we carry her spirit with us through the help of the good
Lord and with the laws of conservation, as well as knowing that her love will continue to guide
