Sheryl Bedair Leatherwood, 78, of Houston, TX, passed away on April 11, 2024 from complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
Sheryl was born on July 4, 1945 to Auldon and Isabel Bedair in Port Arthur, TX. She was the fourth of six siblings. She cherished her sister, Nora, and her brothers, Wallace, Don, Robert, and Andy, and remained close to them and their families throughout her life.
Sheryl married the love of her life, Wayne Leatherwood, on June 10th, 1962. Wayne and Sheryl first met when she was working as a waitress at a drive-in restaurant in 1960, and Wayne was instantly smitten; Sheryl, not so much. He eventually won her over, and Sheryl left high school at the age of 16 to begin their life together. She acquired her GED to receive her high-school diploma. Sheryl and Wayne went on to have three children, Cindy, Darrin, and Brian. Throughout the ups and downs of life, the love between Wayne and Sheryl never wavered. Even after more than sixty years of marriage, they remained devoted to each other and beheld in one another the perfect partner.
Sheryl spent her life primarily as a homemaker and mother, striving to provide a comfortable home for her family and making sure her children had a fun, carefree childhood. They moved often, and she was skilled at packing up and reassembling her home very quickly. She was known for her exquisite taste and sense of style. Her home was always beautifully decorated and immaculate. She enjoyed crafting and was talented at creating lovely floral arrangements. Her taste and meticulousness extended to her personal appearance. No one ever saw Sheryl leave the house without every hair in place!
Sheryl's faith was an integral part of her and she attended church regularly. Her relationship with God was foremost in her life and guided her choices in everything she did.
Wayne's career in sales included extensive travel as he entered middle age, and Sheryl usually joined him on his trips, exploring most of the states and visiting Europe together. It is possible that these trips satisfied their itch to rove; they definitely changed residences much less often during this period of their lives! After retirement, they settled in Cypress, TX and remained there until shortly before her passing.
Sheryl was predeceased by her parents, Auldon and Isabel, and her beloved brothers, Wallace, Robert, and Andy Bedair. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Brian Newton; her sons and daughters-in-law, Darrin and Charlotte Leatherwood and Brian and Mitzi Leatherwood; her grandchildren, Victoria, Alex, Dillon (Sarah), Caitlin, and Isabel; her great-granddaughter, Lyla; her sister, Nora (Roy) VanHess; and her brother, Don (Heidi) Bedair. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews that are too numerous to name but whom she all loved dearly.
Services will be held at Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18th at 2:00 p.m.. The viewing will be Wednesday, April 17th, from 5-8 p.m. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, you can donate to Cure Alzheimer's Fund in Sheryl's memory.
