Life Reflections of Sheryl Ann "Sherry" Curtis Symonette

Sheryl Ann Curtis Symonette, fondly known as Sherry, was born on November 6, 1956, in Tomball, TX, to Willie Clarence ("WC") Curtis, Sr., and Jerline Whitfield Curtis. Coming from very humble beginnings, Sherry and her seven siblings shared lots of fun times growing up in the small town of Tomball. Sherry was known for her spirited and vibrant personality, which brought warmth, joy, and energy to every room she entered.

Sherry was a proud graduate of Tomball High School, home of the mighty Cougars. During her time there, she was actively involved in the school newspaper and played the flute as a dedicated member of the band. She was also honored to be a member of the National Honor Society.

She went on to earn her degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston, embarking on a distinguished career in the field. Sherry served as a pharmacist for both Kroger and Walgreens for many years. Later, she fulfilled a dream by opening and operating her own pharmacy. In her semi-retirement, she continued to share her expertise as a consultant, helping establish several independent pharmacies, including one owned by her niece, Shunte Takyi, in DeSoto, Texas.

Sherry had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. She was passionate about preserving her family's history and had a gift for capturing life's moments through photography. She collected pharmacist mortars, a nod to her beloved profession, and enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, dancing, and exploring fine dining and art. She also cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as manicures and pedicures, which brought her joy and relaxation.

Sherry was raised in Pilgrim Hill Baptist Church in Hufsmith, Texas, under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Charles E. Martin, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized, beginning a lifelong journey of faith. During her formative years, she was an active and devoted member of the church, serving faithfully in Sunday School, the choir, Baptist Training Union, and Vacation Bible School. Her commitment to her faith and service remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Sherry remained deeply connected to her roots in Tomball, always cherishing the bonds she formed there. She held a special place in her heart for her Tomball community, especially her cousins Marilyn, Eva, and Ellen Rose, as well as her Houston cousins, Sharon and Kenny. She maintained lasting relationships with her Tomball friends, including Christine, Betty Joyce, and Betty Pearl. Throughout her life, she also maintained close and lasting friendships with her University of Houston friends, particularly Cabrini, Kathy, and her former professor, Dr. Louis Williams. In addition, she gained valuable friendships along her pharmacy journey with Rose, JJ, Robert, Frank, Marcia, and a host of other pharmacy colleagues. These enduring relationships were a testament to Sherry's loyalty, warmth, and unwavering love for those she held dear.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Clarence ("WC") Curtis, Sr., and Jerline Whitfield Curtis; two siblings, Carolyn Hagen and Charles Curtis; niece Shani "Candy" Curtis, and great-nephew Corraun Caldwell.

Sherry's memory will be affectionately upheld by her devoted family, who will forever cherish the bond they shared: Linda Washington, Clarence R. Curtis, Tammye Curtis-Jones, Tanjye Curtis, Willie C. Curtis, Jr, Angie Curtis Walker (Charles), Anne Walker Curtis, Meca Walker, and Earline Alexander.

Sherry was affectionately known as "That Auntie" — the one who supported, celebrated, and lovingly spoiled her nieces and nephews. She took immense pride in being a constant presence in their lives. She leaves behind a beloved legacy in a host of beautiful nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory: Tabitha Britt, Marcello Simmons, Tilesha Price, Candace Boutte, LaTisha Jackson-Davis, Schlena Curtis, Clarence Curtis, Jr, Sidney Curtis, Jared Curtis, Latoya Curtis, Willie C. Curtis, III, Shunte' Takyi, Lendric Washington, Brittney Mathieu, Shelia Curtis, Christian Jones, Briana Caldwell, Brinae Bolden, Jordan Jones, Charles B. Walker, III, and Aiden Walker.

Sherry's legacy lives on through the many great-nieces and great-nephews she leaves behind, each a cherished part of the family she loved so deeply: Desmond Phlegm, Solica Wallace, Sharekia Britt, Camille McCrea, Christopher Marks, Dexter Bowie, Jaden Darjean, Jaquan Moore, Mariah Curtis, Jarius Curtis, Tiana Curtis, Nevaeh Curtis, Makaila Curtis, Jerren Curtis, Jonah Wilson, Trinity Curtis, Gabrielle Curtis, Qiran Simmons, Chandler Mathieu, Makenna Curtis, Greyson Curtis, Marlee Mathieu, Chyna Mathieu, Koye Curtis, D'Mari Bolden, Chase Simmons, Marlee Mathieu, Juliette Curtis, Marco Mathieu, Willow Curtis, Gabrielle Johnson, Nyla Takyi, D'Cori Bolden, Nuri Takyi, and Dream Bolden.

She is also remembered in love by her great-great nieces and nephews: Alanesha Young, Daranesha Britt, Dajonae Phlegm, Desmond Phlegm II, Noeriyah Britt, Terrance

Hawkins, Brielle McCrea, Paris Darjean, Carter Moore, Houston Darjean, and Rome Darjean.

Sherry's life was one of purpose, passion, and generosity, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and inspiration. She was a devoted member of the Houston Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, and helped with the Top Teens of America in previous years. She will be missed by all!
