Sherry Ann Harris McKinzie was born September 13, 1948 and passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 77, leaving behind a family far larger than any family tree could adequately show.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joel Wood; her parents, Bunice and Clifford Harris; and her brothers, Gary and Cliff Harris.

Sherry is survived by her children, Robyn Banks and husband Tim, Melissa Sanchez and husband Moses, JoAnna Wallace and husband Reid, and Garrett McKinzie; her brother, Tim Harris, whom she proudly helped raise; her sister-in-law, Paulette Harris; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

But Sherry’s family never stopped with biology. She was a devoted foster and adoptive mother and “Oma” or grandma to many international exchange students. If a child needed love, encouragement, a meal, or simply somewhere to belong, Sherry made room.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life and carried her through both its joys and its heartbreaks. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, worked with infants, and created a Sunday school class for neurodivergent children so their parents could worship. She loved sharing her faith, and some of her children’s earliest memories are of their mother singing hymns to them.

Sherry loved cooking, gardening, writing poetry, serving her church, and, above all, her family. She loved deeply, laughed often, survived nearly 40 combined years of marriage, and remained what she had always been—a lover, not a fighter.

Her greatest legacy is found in the many people she loved, nurtured, welcomed, taught, fed, prayed for, and called her own.
