Shawn Monday Thomas, 60, of Houston, Texas passed away on November 16, 2017 after a long and valiant battle with Appendiceal Cancer. Shawn was a native Houstonian born to N.T. "Terry" Monday and Beverly Von Hull.  She attended Stratford High School and later Sam Houston State University where she attained a degree in Fashion Merchandising and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  While at Sam Houston, she met the love of her life and best friend of 37 years, Guy. In 1980 they were married at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Champions.

Shawn's career began in Specialty Retail for several department stores in the Houston area. However, Shawn's passion was always children, she loved kids and they were naturally drawn to her. Once her two children were in school, Shawn began teaching in the Mother's Day Out program at John Wesley United Methodist Church. In 2016 Shawn retired as the Director of John Wesley Preschool, after 25 years of service, where she was affectionately known as "Miss Shawn" by many at John Wesley. Shawn was preceded in death by her sister Cheryl "Cheri" ( Monday ) Beard. Shawn is survived by her parents Beverly Monday , Terry and Josephine "Jo" Monday ; husband Guy Thomas Jr.; son Matthew and his wife Lindsey; daughter Sarah and grandchildren Mimi, Cate and Baby Girl Thomas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to John Wesley Preschool, John Wesley United Methodist Church, or Houston Hospice.

Shawn's family would like thank all the angels that cared for her, especially Dr. Stephanie Bruce, Dr. Zehra Kapadia, Karla Blanton, RN and Christi Potts, RN.

A celebration of Shawn's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Dr., Houston, Texas 77069.
