Houston, Texas- Sharon Layer Sumner, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother lost her courageous five-year battle to ALS on November 22, 2017. She was sixty-six years old.

Sharon was born on December 12, 1950 to Alfred and Iva Layer in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up alongside her brother Matt as "Army Brats", they were raised in Ft. Knox. There she met her other-half, William "Bill" E. Sumner Jr. After a year of courtship, the two were wed January 20, 1970 in Louisville, Kentucky. They soon welcomed into the world, their three beautiful children; Wes, Jenny and LeighAnn.

In 1979, a business venture led Bill and Sharon to settle their young family in Texas. Apart from being a supportive wife and loving mother, Sharon was actively involved in church, enjoyed sewing, and was an avid tennis player. Once their kids became adults, Bill and Sharon traveled the world together; one of their favorite vacations being a New Zealand fishing trip.

Sharon is survived by her husband of forty-seven years Bill, son William E. "Wes" Sumner III and wife Erin, daughter Jenny Sumner Crews and husband John, daughter LeighAnn Sumner Taylor and husband Gordon, and brother Matt Layer and wife Diane Layer. Sharon's six grandchildren will forever cherish and carry on the tradition of decorating gingerbread houses; Erica, Will and Grant Sumner, Samantha Crews, and Grace and Maggie Taylor. She is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Iva Layer.

The visitation will be at Klein Funeral Home, Monday November 27, 2017 5-8pm. The Funeral will be Tuesday November 28, 2017, at Trinity Klein Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Klein Memorial Park.
