Sharon Hugele of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully from a long battle with Parkinson's disease on March 7, 2024 at the age of 77.

A native Houstonian, born on July 23, 1946, to Clarence and Margaret Apffel, Sharon was a graduate of St. Pius X High School and The University of Texas at Austin where she had fond memories as a member of the Longhorn Singers.

For almost 30 years, Sharon taught Spanish and French languages at several Houston-area schools within Cy-Fair ISD and HISD as well as at her alma mater, St. Pius X High School. She was especially known for her creative and enthusiastic teaching style where it was not uncommon for lively singing and dancing to be heard down the hall from her classroom.

After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed volunteering with many groups in the community, including with the Houston Junior Forum and with Glazier Senior Education Center, where she taught Spanish and French.

Sharon will be remembered as a devout Christian, heavily involved in church activities, including bible study, teaching Spanish, international student and women's ministries, and many mission trips.

Her joy in life was being able to spend time with her children and grandchildren, sharing her love of languages and culture, and spreading the word of Christ to anyone who would hear it in English, Spanish, and French.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ronnie Apffel.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Jack Hugele, their two children, son Jason and his wife Melanie Hugele, daughter Jackie Hugele; three grandchildren Madeleine, Henry, and John Joseph, who called her "Lali"; her sister Denise and husband Robert Murski of College Station, Texas; and many cherished family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, Texas 77065. A reception will be held in the community center following the service.
