Obituary

Sharon was born to Jesse E. Poe and Katheryn J. (Snider) Poe in Monroe, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Harry E. Poe and Noel D. Poe as well as her spouse of 61 years, Ronald K. Corl. She is survived by her children Victoria Gurnack, Richard Corl, Bethany Thomas and Randall Corl. Grandchildren, James Parry, Harrison Corl, Matthew Gurnack, Jesse and Kinsey Thomas. Great Grandchildren Samantha and Garreth Parry and numerous nieces and nephews.

As a pastor's wife, she was dedicated to helping her husband, Ron, with his duties as a Pastor and she was always involved in the choir and United Methodist Women as member and President. Served on Plymouth United UCC Church Council and participated in the women's retreat and in the community. She was a housewife and took care of her children when they were small by herself as Ron was away at seminary.  When the children were older she took her first job in a factory. After that she worked as kitchen manager and cook at a special needs school and taught children life skills required to be independent. She worked in the Dietary Department at Crittenton Hospital and was also a Union Steward / Arbitrator. She then worked in a nursing home in Detroit as Dietary Supervisor, where she became a licensed dietitian, managed the kitchen and certified Activities director.

Her kidneys failed in 1987 and she spent the rest of her life dealing with End Stage Renal Disease taking charge of her own care and lived far longer than she was expected to.

She was much loved by her family, many friends and those she worked with. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, sense of humor (Being able to laugh at herself) and care for her family and friends. She will be missed but not forgotten and we celebrate her life, just as she lived it.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either The National Kidney Foundation, United Methodist Women Missions, United Church of Christ Missions.
