Sergio "David" Diaz, 51, of Cypress, Texas, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on July 24 ^th , 2020. David had been courageously battling uveal melanoma for the past three years and he fought hard to the very end.

David is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Kelli Eichler Diaz; his two daughters, Mia Alexandria and Sophia Annalise Diaz; his parents, Sergio and Maria Diaz; his sister Liliana Diaz Woods, husband Scott Woods; his godfather and uncle Luis "Tio" Diaz; nieces Nina Woods and Alexandra Pfuehler; nephews Finn Woods, Zachary Pfuehler, Lance "LJ" McKinnon and Richard English; his beloved Vizsla, Ruby, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Josefina and Benjamin Diaz, Miriam Burgos and Emilio Sierra.

David was born on March 19th, 1969 to Maria and Sergio Diaz in Hartford, Connecticut. The family moved to Tampa, Florida in 1972 and eventually settled in northwest Houston in 1981. He graduated from Jersey Village High School in 1987 and from Southwest Texas State University in 1993. He spent many years working in the banking and mortgage industry, and ultimately transitioned to steel sales. His last 10 years were spent as a valued employee of Triple-S Steel. On September 2, 2000 David married Kelli and on June 9, 2006 and March 31, 2008 he welcomed his two beautiful daughters who were the most important part of his life.

David was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He never met a stranger and was the first to greet you with his smile and try to make you feel welcome. David loved all things sports. He was an avid Oklahoma fan and enjoyed traveling to see the Sooners play across the country. But his greatest passions were baseball and softball, and most of his life has been spent on a ball field. David was a baseball player into his college days, but eventually traded it for softball. He enjoyed playing on several men's and co-ed teams and was fondly known as "Heavy D" on the ball fields. David's greatest accomplishments in life came on the fields. It was while playing on a co-ed team, he met his wife, but his greatest joy on the fields has been in watching and coaching his two daughters. He has spent countless hours with them on and off the fields sharing his love of the sport. It's through them that his love of the game will live on.

David will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him, but we know he is now hitting home runs on the ultimate field of dreams.
