Spring

Obituary

Loving father and lifelong adventurer Sean Stephen Marmion died Feb. 6, 2022 in a hang gliding accident in Valle de Bravo, Mexico.  It was his last day flying before he was due to return home to Spring, Texas.  He was 53.

Sean was born July 9, 1968, in Smithtown, New York, to parents who immigrated to the United States; Gloria Rushton from England, and Gerry Marmion from Ireland.

Sean grew up on the Isle of Portland, England, where he helped a neighbor, John Morgan, care for giant Shire horses used during royal visits and public events. One of his jobs was to take the show horses to the top of the island in the morning to graze and back down the narrow streets of Portland in the evening to their stalls, something he did with gusto astride the lead horse, delighting in being eye-to-eye with passengers on the top decks of double-decker buses.

Sean graduated from San Francisco State University, and worked as an independent sales representative for outdoor sporting goods companies, including Obermeyer and Teva.  He loved to connect with the people he'd meet through his work and on his many journeys.  Among the places he visited were Zanzibar, Malawi, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, and Easter Island, where he went with his daughter Emma. In recent months, he took his son John scuba diving in Cozumel, Mexico, hiked a glacier in Washington State, and went diving with great white sharks in the Pacific Ocean. Life over-brimmed in Sean and he lived it as a joyful adventure.

He loved to cook for others, sing out of key to Prince songs, and read favorite books, including Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" and Milan Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being."

Sean was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Glass, his aunt, Patricia Leveque, his uncle Angus, aunt Betty, and cousins Stephen Leveque and David Rushton. He leaves behind his loving parents; his children John Morgan Marmion, Emma Margaret Moore and Ashley Kiely; his sister Suzanne Marmion and nephew Shayan; his aunt Mary and uncle John ("Charlie") Markett; and his uncles Jerry Leveque and Erle Rushton. Also mourning his passing are close friends and relatives: Rolene AuClaire, Cybele Pelcher, Ocean Waller, Eileen Lomoriello; Michael, Brendan and Kevin Markett; Gerald and David Leveque, Debbie Rushton Kimball, 'Mickey' McNall, Matthew Moore, Kara Watterson, Arpita Bhagwat and Rob Brown.

Sean's final wishes were for his friend Rob to throw a two-drink-minimum party and to stamp hands at the door.

Sean's "Celebration of Life" will be on Saturday June 4th, 2022 in Houston. For details, please e-mail SeanSMarmion@gmail.com .

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a tribute donation to one of Sean's favorite charities, Doctors Without Borders
