Scott Allen Mohun, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Spring, Texas. Born in Houston, Scott spent his formative years in Virginia, where he excelled as a star athlete in many sports. He attended Virginia Tech, proudly playing for the Hokies football team — a passion and loyalty he carried throughout his life.
After returning to Houston, Scott built a successful career in roofing and discovered a second calling as a pitmaster. As a member of the Jackpot Cookers, he earned multiple blue ribbons for his barbecue at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Cook-Off, a testament to both his skill and his joy in sharing good food with others.
Scott's greatest love was his family. His happiest days were spent with his wife, Ellen, whom he met in a serendipitous moment at their favorite neighborhood restaurant, Rico's Mexican Grill — a meeting that changed both their lives. Together, they embarked on countless adventures across the Gulf Coast, from the beaches of Pensacola to the bright lights of Shreveport, and many memorable stops in between.
A devoted father and grandfather "Gamps/Gramps," Scott poured his energy into the lives of his children and grandchildren — coaching sports teams, building sets for marching band performances, and being a constant ray of sunshine to their children. He cheered them on in every endeavor and was extremely proud of the people they grew into and the lives they built. The perfect evening for him was one when his wife, kids, and grandchildren came together to enjoy the home he and Ellen had built and the food he grilled on a warm Texas evening. He was also a devoted fan of Houston sports, and endlessly supported the Astros, Texans, Cougars, Aggies, and Bearkats.
Scott is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sister, Marcey Loader (David) of Austin, TX; his three daughters, Dallas Henson (Dereck) of New Braunfels, TX, Morgan Mohun-Gholson (Charlton) of San Francisco, CA, and Shanelle Milholland (Daniel) of Liberty Hill, TX; two stepchildren, Ryan Etherton (Alyssa) of Spring, TX and Courtney Swonke (Adam) of Spring, TX; nine cherished grandchildren, Maddax, Aubree, Xander, Chloe, Evie, Charley, Juliette, Andrew, and Carter; his in-laws, Roe and Frances Ely, and the Mohun family dogs, Bear, Scruffy, Jake, Sadie, and Rufus, who will miss him dearly.
