Douglas "Scott" Blankenship, loving husband and father, loyal friend, avid hunter, and amateur comedian, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58 on Memorial Day, May 31 ^st , 2021 in Spring, Texas.

Scott was born on September 24, 1962, to Claudette and Bobby Jack Blankenship in Wichita Falls, Texas. Scott was a loving brother to his older sister, Deborah Garcia, though she would probably say he was an absolute menace.  Scott was active in his high school's marching band, hunted with his uncle and cousins, and spent early mornings on Lake Lewisville skiing with friends before class.  He then attended the University of North Texas where he was an active member of the Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity.  One fateful evening during a Date Night Party with the Pi Phi sorority, he met the love of his life, Melinda (Meyer) Blankenship.  After several failed attempts to take her on a date, she finally agreed! From then on, their love grew and grew.

Soon after graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Scott married Melinda and started his career as a financial advisor in Phoenix, Arizona.  There they began a family with the birth of their two daughters, Brennan and Rebecca (Becca) Blankenship.  Some years later, Scott and his family moved back to Texas, eventually settling in the Northwest Houston area where he and Melinda adopted their son, Joseph (Jose) Blankenship.

Scott's favorite pastime was hunting.  Whether it was with family, friends, or clients, Scott found immense joy when spending time in the great outdoors.  He especially loved all his hunting dogs; they were like his second set of children.  His family loved eating the bounties of his hobby, including his bacon-wrapped quail with a cream cheese and jalapeno filling and Thanksgiving meals of pheasant and venison.  His kids also loved to trick their friends into unknowingly eating his deer sausage, which was the best sausage around (they just didn't know it yet).

Scott loved to read, research, and debate anything he found interesting, which typically included politics, economics, religion, and history.  He could recall facts that he read with almost perfect precision, much to the amazement of anyone with whom he was debating.  He never lost his love for debate or his insatiable curiosity for the truth of things.

One of Scott's best qualities was his devotion to the verse "Love thy neighbor as thyself."  During his early career, he joined Junior Achievement, dedicating his time to tutoring and mentoring children in Phoenix.  As an active member of the church and a Deacon, he volunteered whenever he had time, including taking communion to home-bound members of the church, delivering for Angel Tree, organizing at the food pantry, or participating in local mission trips.  When he couldn't give of his time, he generously supported many children's Christian education, Campus Crusade for Christ, Christ's Haven Children's Home, and various foreign missions.

Those of us who knew him were blessed by his constant support, Spock-like logic, calming wisdom, impish chuckles, and steadfast love.  We will forever miss his terrible jokes, his light-hearted teasing, his ability to trap you into a long conversation, his penchant for pheasant-themed knick-knacks, and his willingness to counsel you in difficult times.  Scott is survived by his parents, Claudette and Bobby, his wife Melinda, their children Brennan, Becca, and Jose, and his sister Deborah.

As Scott would say - "The road goes on forever and the party never ends" (Robert Earl Keen), so let's keep going.
