Sarah Ruth Thornton Golden was born in Pierce County, Georgia to Shelley and Pearl Thornton. She grew up on a farm with 12 brothers and sisters.  She loved Georgia and her eyes would twinkle when she was going back home for a visit.  She graduated from high school in 1946 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida and found a job at Bell Telephone Company as a PBX operator.  She met her husband, Harry Leo Golden, and they were married March 12, 1948.  Over the years they called at least 16 different cities home.  They moved to Houston, Texas in 1982.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her siblings.  There are four surviving siblings. She is survived by three children: Patrica and husband, David Terhune; Pamela Mulkins; and Michael and wife Gail Golden.  There are three surviving grandchildren: Will and wife, Elizabeth Mulkins; Michelle and husband Brian Burtis; Blake and wife Jessica Golden.  She was preceded in death by grandson, Matthew Terhune.  In addition, she was blessed with eight great-grandchildren and one on the way!  They are Nathan and Maddie Terhune; Dominic and Dennis Mulkins; Eva and Everett Burtis; Riley and Raney Golden.

Throughout her life, Sarah was a devout Christian who loved singing Christian hymns.  She volunteered at Cypress Fairbanks Hospital in Houston for 20 years.  Besides being a good cook and homemaker, she also loved to do crafts.  Over her lifetime, she did gardening, painted ceramics, embroidered, crocheted, quilted, and sewed curtains, placemats, and outfits for herself and two daughters.  She upholstered furniture and painted furniture too!  Lately, she had spent many hours making jewelry and flower arranging.  She was a person who liked to keep busy!

The last few years were difficult because the effects of cancer were taking their toll.  She will be missed by everyone who knew her but we know she's in heaven singing in the choir "Victory in Jesus," which was her favorite song.  Her favorite Bible verses were John 14:1-3, which she quoted often.

Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go to prepare a place for you, I come again and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
