Sandra "Sandy" Smith, 74, of Spring, TX, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2024. She was born August 13, 1949, in Winnie, Texas to the late Martin Arnold Brahm and Lena "Sherry" Brahm.
She is survived by her sons, Shawn and Brett Smith, their wives, and five grandchildren. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Blake Smith, and her younger siblings Debbie Simmons and Randy Brahm.
Although she was born in Winnie, Sandy grew up across several Texas East Coast towns, including Port Arthur and Beaumont, where she graduated from Lamar University with a teaching degree, got married and began her family. Her family grew to include 3 sons. They moved from Beaumont to live in both the Houston and Dallas areas, finally settling in Spring/Klein just north of Houston. She spent 25 years as an elementary school teacher, often working with special education students, and spent her final year as an educator in Arizona on an Indian reservation.
While the tragedy of debilitating mental illness and the loss of so many close loved ones robbed Sandy and her family from enjoying the last 15 years of her life together, she had once greatly enjoyed spending time with extended family at their grandparents' Kirbyville farm and parents' beach cabin on the Bolivar peninsula. She also enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, reading, watching movies, playing Trivial Pursuit, and buying gifts for her grandchildren.
