San Kim was born in the small province of Pursat, Cambodia on July 5th, 1940. She was the 4th oldest out of 9 siblings: 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She was married with 3 children: 1 boy and 2 girls. In Cambodia, she worked as a vendor selling food to take care of her family. She had lived during a difficult time in Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge had taken over and caused one of the worst tragedies of the 20th century. Known as the Cambodian Genocide, millions of Cambodian lives were lost. She was fortunate to have survived through it all, but had to endure being a prisoner. On November 2nd, 1984 she was blessed with an opportunity to have a different life in the U.S. with her husband and her daughter. In America, she supported her family by cooking delicious meals and taking care of her grandchildren while her daughter and son-in-law worked. She found her community and faith in God at First Cambodian Baptist Church of Aldine. As a devoted and faithful Christian, she influenced others through her wisdom and the Lord's guidance.
In 2018, missing the place that she once called home, she returned to her native country to visit for a while. She had plans to come back to her family in the U.S.; however on September 25th, 2021 the Lord took her home. Though she will be missed dearly, she has left a lifetime of memories that we will not be forgotten. Her humor, wisdom, kindness, and faith still lives on through her daughter and 2 grandchildren. Even from what she endured in the past, she found peace in the Lord and lived a life she may once have not thought imaginable.
