Samuel Lynn Clowney

Samuel Lynn Clowney (AKA: Sam, Dad, Granddad, and G-daddy)

passed away on December 31, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born

June 20, 1945 to Samuel Thomas Clowney and Wahloollah Moore

Clowney in Memphis, Tennessee. His siblings Larry Clowney, Gloria

Guthrie, and Ronnie Clowney survive him. Sam was predeceased by his

parents and brother, Jerry Clowney.

On December 30, 1966 Sam was married in Memphis, Tennesseee to

Annie M. Witherington - a marriage that lasted 51 years. Five children and

their families blessed their home: Samuel Ross Clowney (Johanna), June

C. Davis (David), James/Jim W. Clowney (Amber), John R. Clowney

(Bonnie), and Ruth C. Panter (Skylar). Sam and Annie have fourteen

grandchildren: (Ross) Justin, Erik, Kaitlyn, (June) Annie, Mary Drew, (Jim)

Cass, Harper, (John) Sam, Will, Andrew, and (Ruth) Gustavo, Nicholas,

Evelyn, Penelope. Sam is greatly missed for his abiding love and sharp

wit.

Sam graduated from Christian Brothers College (BSME) and Morehead

State University (MBA). He spent his entire career working in the natural

gas industry where he received many awards for his excellent work. Sam

helped to further research and development in the gas industry, and was a

great influence to policy introduced in the Clean Air Act. During his career,

he made many friends across the U.S. and other countries.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day

Saints, Sam held various teaching and leadership positions. For

seventeen years he served as a scout master helping many young men

obtain their Eagle Scout award.

Sam was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan claiming that his initials "SLC"

were his father's doing to honor the team. There were only a few Cardinal

games he ever missed.

A memorial service will be held in Sam's honor on Saturday, February 3,

2018 at 10 AM at the Klein Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter Day Saints, 16535 Kleinwood Dr., Spring, Texas.
