Sammie Ruth Huff Bankhead, 72, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in The Woodlands, Texas, with her loving husband of 50 years by her side.
Sammie was known for her unwavering devotion to her family, her remarkable artistic talent, and her generous, caring spirit. She had a gift for making a house a home and for ensuring that everyone who entered it felt welcomed and loved.
She was born on February 3, 1954, in Lampasas, Texas, to Sammie Ferguson Huff and Artie "Creola" Riddle Huff. She married her childhood sweetheart, Gary, on August 25, 1975, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned five decades. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure, moving throughout Texas before settling in Spring in 1992, where they raised their two sons, Christopher and Brandon.
Sammie dedicated years of her professional life as a paralegal and later worked with Albertsons and Walgreens. She ultimately found her calling as a pharmacy technician, a role she carried out with diligence and care until her retirement.
Above all, Sammie was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She raised her sons in the church and faithfully guided them in their walk with Him. She and Gary shared many joyful seasons together, including their motorcycle days, where Sammie was known as a confident and capable rider. They also cherished time spent celebrating anniversaries on the beach, making memories and enjoying God's creation.
Sammie deeply loved being a wife and mother. She was a truly exceptional homemaker whose talents extended far beyond the ordinary. She was known for her incredible cooking—especially her beloved chicken and dumplings—and for her creativity and artistic touch in everything she did. She found great joy in time spent outdoors, especially gathered around a campfire. She was also a devoted and honored Cubmaster, guiding and supporting her sons through their Boy Scout years with pride and love.
Sammie is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Lloyd Bankhead; her son Christopher Scott Bankhead and his wife, Charity, along with their children, Christopher Jr., Penelope Ruth, Elijah, Jackson (expected June 2026); and her son Brandon Lee Bankhead and his wife, Lacey, along with their daughter, Lauryl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie Ferguson Huff and Artie Creola Riddle Huff.
