Obituary

Sally Hughston Rogers, aged 86, of Spring, Texas passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7th at approximately 10:30 a.m. She was born June 6th, 1937, in Dallas, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Rogers (Rip), and her two sons, Richard and Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and her four grandchildren, Riley, Evan, Micah, and Tegan as well as her sisters, Mary Smith and Harriet Crayton. She was preceded in death by her son, John, her parents, Maurice and Dick Hughston, and her sister, Nancy Sloan.

  • Sally first attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but she graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1960.  Sally returned to Midland after graduation to work. She later moved to Dallas where she met Rip, her husband, the love of her life. They married in Midland on November 2, 1963, and have recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
  • Throughout the years, Sally and Rip have been active in both community and church affairs. They attended Walnut Hills Methodist Church and Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, and Sally taught Bible Study Fellowship for many years in Dallas. Once they moved to Houston and the Champion Forest Baptist Church, they both quickly began teaching Bible Study Fellowship in Houston.
  • Sally's big heart has always been in direct alignment with her love for Jesus and God and how she could help others understand Christianity. Sally also loved gardening and singing, often singing in church choirs.
  • They are the proud parents of two sons and are grandparents to four grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling to Creede and Breckinridge, Colorado and spent many vacations with their children there fishing and riding horseback. Additional travel to Alaska, Greece, China, and Hawaii were also enjoyed as a couple.
  • Her family would like to express special thanks to Sally's caregivers over the past few months with special recognition to Vicki Thomas and Pascale Harvey.
  • In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the John H. Rogers Memorial Fund at Dallas Seminary Foundation using this link, https://dsf.iphiview.com/dsf/MyFund/AddtoMyFund/tabid/542/dispatch/contribution_id$11904_hash$e4cc44aa24ef103eda713f785b9c8c9360fd2a46/Default.aspx
