Ryan Allen Shook, Jr passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 7, 2026, at the age of 67. He bravely fought pancreatic cancer for almost two years, with his wife Linda by his side every step of the way. His example of strength and grace during that time was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Allen was born in Dallas, Texas on March 10, 1959, and he remained a true Texan his whole life. He grew up in Sweetwater and later moved to Austin where he attended Lanier High School. Allen graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Texas in 1982 and started his career as a production engineer for Tenneco Oil. He later completed his MBA at the University of Houston and proudly worked at Blue Rock Energy for the last 23 years until his passing. He was active in The Society of Petroleum Engineers and served a term as President of the Gulf Coast section. Along the way Allen made many lifelong friends and built countless relationships across the industry and his community.

Allen met Linda at the Silver Dollar Dance Hall in Austin while attending the University of Texas. They married in 1982 and moved to Spring, TX where they resided for over 40 years. They lovingly raised two children, Ryan and Emily. Allen loved being involved in their lives and coached soccer teams, participated in Indian Guides and Princesses, taught them to play golf, and cheered them on in all their activities. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, golf, dirt bikes, Longhorn sports, and dancing with Linda at family events and festivals.

Allen's faith was central in their lives, and he and Linda have been active parishioners at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church since they moved to Spring. He was a hospitality minister, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and taught religious education classes. He and Linda participated in many bible studies and small groups and volunteered for innumerable service projects. One project near and dear to his heart was volunteering for Bo's Place ministries, helping children who experienced the loss of a loved one.

Allen had a gift of connecting with people, and he valued relationships and conversation with others. He was always genuinely interested in others' lives and was present when you were with him. Whether he was at work, at church, on the golf course, or at the farm, Allen had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued.

His greatest joy was spending time with family. He loved and cared deeply for his 7 grandchildren who knew him as Boppa. Allen fully embraced this role and was intentional about his special and individual relationship with each grandchild. He always had a project or game ready for them such as hammering golf tees into styrofoam coolers, playing in the back of his truck, or building forts in the trailer. He especially enjoyed spending time with them at his farm in Hallettsville, taking them for rides around the pasture and just being together.

Allen is survived by his loving wife Linda; son Ryan Shook, his wife Ashley and their children Austin (10), Cameron (8), and Logan (4); daughter Emily Walker, her husband Travis and their children Bradley (14), Sadie (9), Charlie (4), and Riley (8 months); sister Jill Monarch (Thomas), brother Jack Shook (Marilla), and many extended family members.
