Ruth Helene Coibion Vie

January 6, 1938 – April 17, 2023

Ruth Helene (Coibion) Vie, loving wife, mother, grandmother (Mimi) and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord on April 17, 2023 at the age of 85.

The only child of Arnold and Esther Coibion, Ruth was born in St. Louis, MO on January 6, 1938. She met the love of her life, Jerry, at Lutheran High School in 1953. Ruth attended Concordia College in River Forest, IL before her marriage to Jerry D. Vie on August 2, 1958. Ruth's highest calling was to be a wife and mother. She had always wanted a large family and felt God blessed her with children and grandchildren.

The family lived in St. Charles and St. Louis, MO before moving when Jerry's company transferred them to Baton Rouge, LA and then Spring, TX in 1973. Ruth continued her college education and graduated summa cum laude at the age of 39 from Sam Houston State University. She taught at Lutheran schools, the Klein district, and Harris County Community College for a total of twenty-two years.

Ruth loved the art of creating, whether it was decorating, especially at Christmas when the family was all together, or sewing the girls' clothes, prom and wedding dresses. She painted many craft and art pieces as gifts for family, especially her girls. As a teacher, Ruth looked for creative ways to make learning interesting. She enjoyed reading, writing, genealogy, and being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Jerry and Ruth loved to travel, taking the girls on family vacations across the US. As empty nesters they expanded their travels to other countries across the world, including their favorite summer trips to England.

As her health deteriorated and made it more difficult for her to get around, Ruth's creativity moved to writing letters to friends and family. She would search for just the perfect card to send and add a meaningful note.

Ruth was a firm believer in Jesus. God was her rock and strength throughout the years.  She and Jerry were longtime, faithful members of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Spring, TX. She felt her friends at Resurrection were her Houston family. Ruth taught Sunday School, VBS, and mid-week classes.  She served on many church boards throughout the years and sang in the choir.

Ruth thought that Jerry, her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special gift from God, each blessed with their own unique talents and gifts. Ruth was so thankful for and proud of all of her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her best friend and loving husband of 60 years, Jerry D. Vie.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Waak, Karin Bybee, and Julie Frey; son-in-laws John Waak and Bill Frey; grandchildren Nyssa and husband Justin Seyfarth, Ian Waak, Aaron and wife Jordan Waak, Travis Bybee, David Frey, Cameron Bybee, Caroline and husband Derek Reinhold, and Grant Bybee; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Madeleine Seyfarth, and Bonham and Burkes Waak.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00am at Klein Memorial Park – FM 2920, Spring-Klein.
