Ruth Leal Cantu, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home on August 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. She was born on January 16, 1954, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ruth was raised in a large and loving family alongside her many brothers and sisters. She shared a special bond with her identical twin sister, Ruby Cantu, a connection that remained strong throughout their lives. As young women, Ruth and Ruby began their working years as candy stripers at a local hospital, demonstrating early on the caring spirit that would define Ruth throughout her life.
The family later moved to Houston, Texas, where Ruth attended high school. During her younger years, Ruth and Ruby worked at Burger King, where fate would change the course of Ruth's life. It was there that she met Jimmy Cantu, and it was truly love at first sight. Their love grew into a lasting marriage, and together they built a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ruth had a passion for gardening and took great pride in creating a beautiful yard filled with flowers and color. Her dedication and hard work earned her the distinction of "Yard of the Month" multiple times, an achievement she was especially proud of.
Known for her bright smile, positive attitude, and generous heart, Ruth touched countless lives. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ruth is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Cantu; her son, Brian Cantu; her daughter, Melissa Cantu; and her beloved granddaughter, Olivia Cantu. She was preceded in death by her son, James Cantu.
Ruth's love, strength, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and forever dear."
