Ruth Agnes Brown, age 84, passed away on June 28, 2023, due to heart complications and Alzheimer's.  She was born on November 20, 1938, in Springville, Utah, to Lewis B. Childs and Lyle Thurman Childs.

Ruth was the third oldest of her siblings, with three brothers (one died in infancy) and one sister.  She graduated from Springville High School in 1957 and moved to California, where she met her loving husband, Bill.  They were married on April 30, 1960, and just celebrated their 63rd anniversary.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother to three children: Cheryl, Brian, and Meri Kae.  They resided in California until Bill's job at Shell Chemical transferred the family to Houston in 1975.  Ruth loved both California and Texas and the wonderful friends and neighbors she made.  She was an excellent quilter, making many beautiful quilts for her kids and grandkids, as well as for charitable ministries in the area that gave them to those in need. Other interests included sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, and genealogy.  Ruth also volunteered as a leader in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved serving others.  Of her many volunteer church positions, one of her favorites was as chorister in the church's Primary (children's Sunday School).  She made many puppets and visual aids to help the children learn the songs.  Ruth loved animals, especially her cats.  She was well organized and kept an immaculate home, in addition to working as an executive assistant for many different oil and gas companies.  Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Bill Brown, of Houston, and her children: Cheryl (Derek) Bushman, MO; Brian (Leann) Brown, ID; Meri Kae (Darrell) Parker, TX, and her step-daughter, Deborah (Frank) Locatell, CA.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her siblings: Lewis B. Childs, CA; Mary Ann (Lynn) Hall, UT; and Melvin Wayne (Joyce) Childs, UT.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Leo, who died in infancy.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12310 New Hampton Drive, Tomball, TX 77377, where a funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. A committal service will take place at 12:45 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.
