Rush Lee Johnson III, 71, was ushered by angels into Heaven on July 28, 2021, after a five-year battle with cancer. Rush was born on May 2, 1950 to Rush Lee Johnson, Jr. and Mary Ritchey in Austin. Rush was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather as well as a friend and mentor to many.

Rush spent most of his life in Cypress, graduating from Cy-Fair High School and marrying his high school sweetheart, Diane, in 1969. His love for his family was unmatched. He spent his lifetime providing for his family and ensuring that Diane had everything she ever needed. He raised his daughters to be fierce, strong, independent women.

Throughout his life, he took great pride in his work as a mechanical engineer in the oil industry. He had many accomplishments, but was especially proud of his contribution toward resolving the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. He loved traveling and formed friendships all over the world. He spent many years volunteering with church youth groups, teaching Sunday school and newlywed classes. He deeply loved people, and enjoyed conversation and connection with everyone he met.

Rush always loved and appreciated the wonder and beauty of God's creation. Rush and Diane enjoyed camping trips with their daughters and friends. In their later years, Rush and Diane took many hiking trips with friends at national parks all over the country. Rush also loved photographing everything from cool bugs to awe-inspiring landscapes filled with mountains and rivers. He was passionate about his Harley Davidson motorcycle, Blue Bell ice cream, and building and fixing things.

Rush is survived by his wife, Diane Hamner Johnson, their children, Leanne Lauricella, Angela Huckelba and husband John, and Teresa McWhorter and husband Bryan, his grandchildren Molly and Abigail McWhorter and Lola and Jack Huckelba, brother David Hoffman, and sisters Linda Krienke and Lisa Quest.
