Ruperta Cavazos, 88, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Houston, Texas. She was born on April 10, 1938, in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Commandant Benito Peña and Felipa Garza, a devoted housewife and rose grower.
From a young age, Ruperta showed a deep commitment to learning and service. At just 16 years old, she began her work as a rural teacher, educating children from kindergarten through high school in a single classroom on a ranch. Her dedication to education led her to become a licensed educator in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, where she continued shaping young minds with care and determination.
Ruperta was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered around her family. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Adan Cavazos, and her children, Adrian and Deyanira Cavazos.
She is survived by her sons, Mario, Noel, and Jorge Cavazos, along with her 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Ruperta was known for her vibrant and kind spirit. She welcomed everyone with open arms and had a natural warmth that made people feel at home. Her greatest happiness came from watching her family grow and succeed, and she took deep pride in each of their journeys.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
