Roy K. Warren passed away peacefully on February 17, 2021. Roy was born on September 24, 1932 to Roy P. Warren and Mildred H. Warren and later married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Layton, in 1959. After serving time in the Army, he pursued education in electrical engineering, geology, and geophysics; rocks and oil were his niche, to say the least. He was a renowned Geophysicist with several patents and numerous publications to his name in addition to an illustrious career with Exxon. Despite retirement, he focused on his life's work involving the search for underground anomalies to further our country's energy independence…he loved staying active in his field.

Roy's professional accomplishments did nothing to stop him from pursuing the American Dream with the beautiful and intelligent Betty by his side. They raised three boys, a veritable menagerie of animals, and a slew of grandchildren over the years, all while traveling to exotic destinations and challenging each other intellectually. In his spare time, Roy loved to garden and experiment with different types of peppers, but his tomatoes were the true belle of the ball and he relished the harvest time. Additionally, he never turned down company and was always available to discuss a myriad of topics…from Calculus to Fortran or Nephrite Jadeite to malachite.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty. He is survived by his three sons: Alan and wife Terri; Douglas and wife Katherine; Gordon and wife Johanna; as well as six grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Jeffrey, Kyle, Christopher, Emily, Allison, and Sarah; and sister Joanne Purcell along with her much-loved family. The family wishes to express appreciation for the care and assistance provided by Advocates for the Independent.
