Roy Turner Bogan, of Wapanucka, Oklahoma, was one of 14 children born to George Bogan and Lulu Bogan, and was the youngest son to survive. He graduated from Wapanucka High School with a legacy of athletic agility in basketball. Afterwards, while being too young to join his accomplished brothers in WWII, Roy forged a business career instead, one that had an unlikely beginning in music.

Roy was an opera major at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.  Norman is also the place where he started a family with his young wife, Dorothy Juanita Bogan (formerly Spruill).  The two would remain married for the next 68 years, ending with the passing of Juanita in 2017. They had three children, Janis Lynn, Glenn Wayne, and Susan Renee Bogan.  They also have one grandson, Aaron Thomas Borders.

Roy held a number of positions in the music field, singing opera, barbershop quartet, popular music, and religious music. He was the music Director in several churches, and was often called upon to sing at weddings, funerals, and parties. However, when the opportunity presented itself to work for IBM, Roy accepted the challenge and never looked back.

His expertise in the then-new data processing field resulted in transfers to Kansas, Texas, California, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, and finally back to Houston where he remained for the past 40 years. During his tenure as Executive Vice President of Ranger Insurance, Roy suffered a life threatening illness while on a business trip.  Only 59 years old, he was forced to retire.

But, even when life threw him a curve ball, Roy continued to enjoy being active, always ready to go whenever asked, and always eager to be a part of any family or friend gathering. Most evenings found him in his favorite chair, with his beloved dog, Honey, in his lap. One of his favorite activities was playing dominoes with one of his 9 sisters, eventually playing regular matches at the nursing home where he lived.

Roy will be missed by all who knew him.
