Ronald Dean Freytag went to be with the Lord on the 19th of March, at the age of 82. He was born on February 13, 1941 to the late Aaron Freytag and Marie Dement Capdevielle. He is also preceded in death by his son Lance Ray Freytag and great-grandson Carson Hayes Gurganus.

Ron is survived by his wife Rita Simecek Freytag; son Larry Freytag, wife Karen, his stepdaughters Rhonda Tasker, husband Bill, Sheri Howard, husband Paul and Michelle Tillmon, husband Todd; grandchildren Amber Gurganus, Austin Freytag, Brooke Hluza, Madison Duncan, Cannon Tasker, Brandon Howard, Cameron Howard and Taylor Tillmon; great-grandchildren Hunter Gurganus, Rylee Freytag, Bentley Freytag, Ryder Freytag, Emery Freytag, Travis Hluza, Emma Hluza, Brady Hluza, Charlotte Duncan, Autumn Duncan and Arlo Duncan.

Ron was born in Smithville, Texas and graduated from Smithville High School in 1959. He attended Warton Jr. college for one year before transferring to the University of Corpus Christi, where he played Tennis. He then moved to Houston, Texas and joined the Houston Fire Department where he retired as Captain, after 25 years of service. He raised his family in Houston where he enjoyed coaching his sons in little league baseball. In 1989 he became a Sheriff at Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, where he worked for 7 years. In 1996 he moved back to Houston and worked for the U.S. Marshall Service where he worked for 10 years.

After retirement, Rita and Ron resided in Tomball, where they served at Freewill Baptist Church for many years. Ron had many duties including serving on the board, teaching adult Sunday school, as well as helping to clean the church every week. In addition, he also taught Bible study at Grace Care Nursing Home every Friday, for 10 years. In 2019 Ron and Rita felt led to join Southwinds Baptist Church where they are still members. They were unable to be as active as they would have liked because of Health reasons.

Ron was a devoted husband and took pride in caring for the needs of his wife. He enjoyed all sports but baseball was his favorite and he was a big Astros fan. He also enjoyed going to antique car shows and owned several antique cars over the years. He was a big Texas history buff and was a cross word puzzle expert. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends but they take comfort knowing he is no longer suffering - absent from the body but present with his Lord and Savior.
