Ronald Joseph Bertus was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 6, 1935, and passed away in Houston, Texas on June 17, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hycinth and James Bertus.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 62+ years, Rose Bertus; his brother Brent Bertus and wife Kathleen; his children, James Bertus and wife Audrey, Lester Bertus and wife Mary, Ann Cousminer and husband Dave, and David Bertus and wife Rosie; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ron grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana outside of the French Quarter.  He attended Holy Cross High School and Tulane University before graduating with a BS in Chemical Engineering.  After a brief stint in the Army, he joined Shell Oil Company in 1958 as a Chemical Engineer at their Norco Refinery in New Orleans.

Ron held various positions with Shell Oil that included a move to New York City in 1967 which was their headquarters at the time.  In 1970 he was relocated to Houston, Texas and continued to hold a number of positions within the company.  He was promoted to General Manager of the Supply and Trading group and retired from that position in 1992.

Ron was an avid golfer in his later years.  He would play 3-4 times a week with his many friends.  He and Rose traveled extensively after his retirement.  Several memorable trips included a Panama Canal cruise and a tour of the city of Jerusalem with the church.

Later in life Ron battled Alzheimer's.  He was provided in home care during this time by Right at Home.  Rose would like to thank all of the Right at Home staff and care givers during this time, especially Didi, Marleni and Joseph.  They provided Ron with loving care 24/7 over the last 3 years.  Rose would also like to thank Crossroads Hospice and their staff.  The nurses, doctors and staff aided her and Ron during this difficult time.  Rose would like to thank Clevette, Janet and Juliette for all of their help during the past year.

In lieu of flowers, Rose suggests donations to be made in Ron's honor to the Alzheimer's Association or Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm with a Rosary beginning at 7pm on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Spring, TX 77379.  A funeral mass for Ronald will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 TX-249, Houston, TX 77070.
