Roger Gene Weise 1949 – 2018

Roger Gene Weise, 69, of Cypress, Texas – adoring husband, loving father and caring grandfather, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018, with his family by his side at CHI St. Luke's Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas, following a sudden illness.

He was born in Utica, New York, on July 25, 1949, and was the youngest of seven children born of the late George Ronald Weise and Margaret Heinrich Weise. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy High School "UFA" and a proud United States Army Sergeant E-5 Veteran. He served his country honorably in the Vietnam War.

Following his military service from February 3, 1969 – December 28, 1971, Roger worked for the Bossard Group and for Rotundas in Syracuse, New York. He worked as a skilled independent carpenter and roofer and co-owned D&R Roofing in Washington Mills, New York.

R oger married his soul mate, Georgia Casab, on March 4, 1973, at St. Basil's Melkite Catholic Church in Utica, New York, and shared a blessed and happy union together of nearly 46 years. They welcomed their daughter, Shauna Suzanne Marie Weise in 1975, and together they owned and operated several family businesses including Fred's Laundromat, Fred's Liquors and Fred's Family Grocery Store in Chadwicks, New York, where they left a longstanding legacy within the community.

Throughout their nearly 46-year marriage, Roger and Georgia were constant and steadfast in their love and respect for each other, never spending a day apart from one another. He was her calm and steady; she was his gusty adventure. They worked and they lived always at each other's side. They sold their grocery business in 2000 but continued to work alongside each other at Fleet Bank in Utica, New York for five years before relocating to Texas in 2005 to be with their daughter and to welcome their grandchildren into the world.

While living in Texas, both Roger and Georgia worked for Woodforest National Bank for more than ten years. She retired during the summer of 2017 to become a full-time "Mimi" to her grandchildren, and he followed her into retirement in May, 2018. They returned from a long vacation this past fall, visiting family and friends in New York, relaxing, and resting in Colorado and Arizona.

Roger will forever be loved and adored by the family that he so unconditionally protected and nurtured throughout his entire adult life, his beloved wife, Georgia, his cherished daughter Shauna, and his pride and joy grandchildren Toby Roger Weise and Isabella Marietta Weise.

His surviving family members include his brothers, George "Ronnie" Weise, of Holland Patent, NY, and Lawrence "Larry" Weise and his wife, Meribeth, of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Jackie Falduti, of New York Mills, NY, Cindy Stevens and her husband, Donnie, of Utica, NY, and Carol Yocum and her husband, Edward, of Holland Patent, NY; sister-in-law Linda Weise; a very special niece, Dana Evans and her husband Steve and daughters Erica and Jessica; loving nephews Michael, Randy and Larry Dean Weise; niece Debbie Weise Cox; nephews Ted Yocum and his wife Jaime, Craig Yocum and his wife Jean; and several generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roger also leaves behind very special family-friends of many years, Jack and Rita Scott; Deborah Smith and Gordon Kelly, Deborah's children Jaimie "Peanut" Smith and James Patrick "J.P." Smith; and "second daughter" Jennifer Whatman Joiner, her husband Stephen, and their children Nathaniel ( Godson ), Zachary and Christopher Joiner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister who passed away at birth; brother William "Billy" Weise; uncle Burton Heinrich and wife Ann Heinrich; sister-in-law, Sue Weise; brother-in-law, Vinnie Falduti; two nephews, Kirk Weise and Christopher Falduti ( Godson ), father-in-law John Fred Casab, and long-time friends Patrick T. Kress and Suzanne "Suzie" Kress.

Roger was known by many names: Georgia, Shauna, Toby and Isabella lovingly called him "Pappy;" Nathaniel, Zachary and Christopher Joiner delighted in calling him "Roger the Great," and Georgia, his bride, always called him "My Roggie."  He loved his family absolutely and unconditionally. He would arrive home every day and joyfully sing as he strolled through the doorway, "Honey, I'm home!"  He knew no strangers; he loved to visit and to joke with everyone whom he crossed paths with.  His warmth and loving heart made friends and family feel embraced, and his giddy laughter made even the newest of acquaintances feel like life-long best friends.

He took great joy at being recently retired and he was looking towards his future with excitement and anticipation. He loved attending his grandson's marching band events/football games (even if it meant picking him up from school after an out-of-town game at 1:30 a.m. in the morning,) and he would never turn down an opportunity to drive Toby to school activities, concerts, hair appointments, local errands and doctor appointments. He recently taught Toby how to shave and together they took a shopping trip, just the two "men", to purchase Toby's first electric razor. He loved his granddaughter and delighted in watching Isabella grow into a "little Mimi" as she channeled Georgia's spunky personality and determination; and he loved sharing and cooking his favorite childhood dinner recipe together with her as his mother used to cook for him, which Isabella fondly named "Pappy Concoction." He loved to tease her and to challenge her and she loved cuddling with him under a blanket in his big chair.

Roger's greatest love was his family.  He loved taking long walks with his wife, with the dogs, and vacationing together to new places. He loved sunsets over the ocean, nature walks through the woods, and gardening at home with Georgia.  He loved taking his grandchildren on trips and surprising them periodically at home with small treats, desserts and rewards without any reason other than to see them get excited and to smile. He loved playing cards, going to the movies every week, and binge watching television shows on "The Netflix" and episodes of the Young and the Restless.

He loved holidays and family traditions. He truly loved doing anything and everything with Georgia by his side. He loved to shop with her and he loved decorating for holidays with her. He loved her daily cooking and especially loved her baking. He would stand or sit with her in the kitchen for hours, just to be close to her while she worked, sharing endless conversations and dreaming up their next adventures (and to sneak a few bites of her latest culinary delights when she wasn't looking).  He loved his new Texas holiday traditions spent each year with the Joiner family and he could always be found somewhere in the middle of the combined young children, squealing and laughing as they each begged for his endearing and fun-loving attention.

More than anything, Roger loved being a husband, a father and a grandfather. His greatest legacy was one of love, and he will eternally be alive within the hearts of his family. Through his life-long actions, thoughts and words, he showed his wife how a true husband commits to his spouse and to his family with self-sacrificial love and dedication; he showed his daughter how a true man respects, honors and treasures the love of his family; and he showed his grandchildren how a true father affectionately teaches values and responsibility, disciplines with a balanced gentle hand, and unconditionally loves and protects them.

The heartbreak of his loss will be felt deeply for the rest of our lives; however, the eternal love and bright joy that he gave to each of our hearts will forever shine through and around all of us. Heaven has received a gentle and loving Angel Warrior. Our beautiful and wonderful Pappy. Daddy. Husband.  Forever he will now rest in peace, joy and love, continuing to protect and to guide his family with his embracing arms keeping us warm and his tender eyes shining down upon us.

The family would like to offer heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals at CHI St. Luke's Hospital who worked tirelessly with compassion and empathy as they tended to Roger's care; to Jaimy Stidham who stood as a pillar of extraordinary strength and love for the family during Roger's last moments; to dear friends Steve and Debbie Weinberg and Kirt Morrison who offered unlimited comfort and caring at the hospital and beyond; and to the many loving individuals and friends from the community and church who have been blessing Roger's family with prayers, love and meals.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in The Woodlands, Texas. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following Mass at the residence of Leah Schultz located at 130 South Holly Laurel Circle, Spring, TX 77382 (Alden Bridge area of The Woodlands).
