Roger Searcy, 69, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with his family by his side in Houston, Texas. A beloved husband, father, grandfather (Pops), brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Roger was born, in his home, in the community of Shingle Hollow, in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He was the second child of Hubert and Ruth Searcy. Roger attended Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina where he earned a bachelor's degree in Education – Health and Physical Education. Shortly after this, during his time as a student teacher, he met his future wife, Debbie Searcy. Debbie and Roger were married in November 1976 in New Orleans, La. They made a home in New Orleans for almost 30 years, before relocating to Cypress, Tx after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  They enjoyed making a new home in Cypress over the next 15 years. Debbie and Roger were married for nearly 44 years until Debbie passed away on November 4, 2020.

Roger was a proud oilfield salesman for over 40 years, working up until nearly 2 months before his passing. He adapted quickly to life in the oilfield in New Orleans and soon distinguished himself as a "hand" that would be a valuable resource to any company. His gregarious and charming personality was well suited to oilfield sales of any kind. His lifelong career in the oilfield left him with many great relationships and friendships, most of whom were calling and caring on him up until the end.

Roger loved all things sports, classic southern gospel, and classic TV. Roger was well-known to record and watch any sporting event (it didn't matter the team or sport), but he mostly enjoyed NASCAR. Roger acquired this love of NASCAR from his father, and it became a lifelong passion. He loved spending Sunday afternoons watching a race and sharing that with his family. He would also get so much joy from listening to and singing along to classic southern gospel music! Roger would tell you he acquired this love from sitting on a porch as a child singing hymns with his family. And in between it all, you could likely find him singing along with the Gaither Family or watching Andy from Mayberry (as he'd say) on the Andy Griffith show.

But, Roger, affectionally known as Pops, was most known for his love of his family and friends and for having the biggest heart in most rooms. He loved finding ways to put a smile on someone's face. If that meant a gift, a gesture, a fun story, or putting on a silly hat or outfit. He loved going the extra mile to ensure that his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, loved ones or even strangers walked away from any interaction with him happier. Roger always welcomed anyone into his home or his life with open arms. He always greeted everyone with a smile and a warm hug or handshake and a smile. He was told many times by those who knew him best that his big smile, personality and desire to make others happy made him the type of person you always wanted around.

Roger is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Searcy and his father, Hubert Lee Searcy. Roger is survived by his mother, Ruth Searcy, of Union Mills, Nc; his son Brett Searcy and his wife Sara Searcy, of Cypress, Tx; his daughter Brooke Searcy Pierron and her husband Paul Pierron Jr. of Cypress, Tx; his grandchildren Molly Pierron, Madeline Pierron, Luke Pierron, Mason Searcy, and Ellie Grace Searcy.

Roger is also survived by his brother Donnie Searcy (Janice), sister Cynthia Searcy Koone (Robie), sisters-in-law, Karen Simcox (Mike), Kathy Kapoulas (Mitch), and Diane Allen, and affectionately remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 at Second Baptist Church, 29900 Hwy 290, Cypress, Tx 77433 with a visitation at 1:00pm followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm.
