Roger Norman Johnson, age 70, entered into the presence of his Savior on June 10, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Born on July 1, 1955, in Pasadena, California, Roger lived a life marked by faith, service, family, entertainment, learning, and laughter.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Johnson and Mozelle Simeral.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Davis Johnson; his children, Anthony Johnson and wife Anna, Andrew Johnson and wife Rachel, and Angela Pennington and husband Luke; his cherished grandchildren, Alayna Johnson, Hannah Johnson, June Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, Silas Johnson, Maxwell Johnson, Margot Johnson, Dottie Johnson, Lucas Pennington, Logan Pennington, and Lincoln Pennington; and his brothers, Ross Heaton, Randy Johnson, and William "Wedge"Johnson.

The greatest turning point in Roger's life came at the age of eight when his Presbyterian grandmother led him to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Roger faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force from September 21, 1973, until his honorable discharge on August 24, 1977. He completed his service as an E-4 Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon and Marksman Ribbon. Trained as an Electronic Computer Systems Repairman, Roger spent his military career at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he developed skills that would lead to a distinguished career in technology.

While stationed in Biloxi, Roger became actively involved at Tri-City Baptist Church, where he was discipled by Pastor Daniel LaFon and encouraged in his walk with Christ. Those years helped establish a lifelong love for the Scriptures, Bible prophecy, and Christian service.

Following his military service, Roger attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was there that he continued to grow spiritually and where God brought into his life the woman who would become his beloved wife, Leslie. Together they built a Christ-centered home and family that became one of God's greatest blessings in his life.

Professionally, Roger excelled in the field of information technology. Among his proudest accomplishments were serving as coordinator and master of ceremonies for a technology fair within Exxon's Human Resources Department and developing scheduling applications for Chevron. He also served as vice president of his freshman class at Tennessee Temple University and as president of a document users group.

Roger did what he loved to the maximum. He enjoyed learning, technology, genealogy, movies, strategy games, and especially the art of magic. What began as a hobby became a lifelong passion that brought joy to so many people. He was active among several local and international magicians' organizations and enjoyed using humor, creativity, and wonder to brighten the lives of others. One of his favorite memories was performing magic at Boy Scout banquets and at his sons' fifteenth birthday celebrations.

Roger loved the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than his grandchildren. He desired to be remembered as a loving Granddad who encouraged his family to know the Bible, love Jesus Christ, and use their God-given talents for His glory.

Roger said that he hoped others would learn from him to love Jesus, love the Bible, appreciate learning, and never lose their sense of wonder.

The family will receive friends and celebrate Roger's life at Christchurch Baptist Fellowship, 12501 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, Texas 77066, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Houston National Cemetery.
