Dr. Rodney Alan Light, age 66, of Tomball, Texas, passed away suddenly on May 23rd, 2026.

Rod was born in Wiesbaden, West Germany on the US Air Force Base on August 3rd, 1959 to Jim and Sherree Light. He graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1977, and continued to share that BFND. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University in 1981. He went on to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch on Galveston Island, graduating in 1985. He was a proud member of Phi Beta Pi, protecting the chapter as the Archon. From there, he moved to Dallas to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Methodist Hospital, serving as chief resident his final year.

He met the love of his life, Mary Beth Fons Light, who also attended UTMB as a nursing student, in 1983. They married in July 1987 at St. John Vianney in Houston, Texas. Rod and Mary Beth welcomed their son Patrick MacLinden Light in 1994 and daughter Margaret Ruth Light in 1998. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Despite his workload, he could always be found cheering on the soccer sidelines, or applauding a taekwondo board break.

Rod moved to Tomball in 1988 after being recruited by Dr. Thompkins to join Tomball Regional Internal Medicine Associates. Despite long work hours, he delivered high-quality care with limitless compassion and quickly became beloved by his patients and their families. He took on administrative roles at the then, Tomball Regional Hospital, before transitioning to Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH). In 2013, he helped open the new Baylor Scott & White hospital in College Station, serving as the founding Associate Chief Medical Officer. Within the last year, he transitioned roles to become BSWH Central Texas Division's Medical Director for Utilization Management. Additionally, he served as the Chair of the College Station Hospital Ethics Committee. In these positions, he used the culmination of his experience and wisdom to help ensure patients received the best care and BSWH could continue to fulfill it's mission. He was an exemplar of servant leadership.

Rod was a passionate botanist, aquascaper, angler, architecture-enthusiast, and audiophile. His love and knowledge of nature could be seen in his backyard Japanese Garden, aquariums, and his ability to name practically every genus and species of organism. He enjoyed tackle fishing for bass at the Lakehouse, fly fishing for trout along the Snake river, or landing massive northern pike on Hatchet Lake. He visited many of the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, his favorite architect, such as Falling Water and the Robie House. He amassed an impressive collection of vinyl and vintage audio equipment. He could often be found sitting in his recliner, watching his fish, and listening to his favorite Jazz records.

Rod will be remembered as a loving husband, father, friend, physician, and colleague. His legacy will live on in the patients he healed, the colleagues he mentored, and his family and friends. Following his example, they will continue to treat others with kindness and compassion.
