Obituary

Roderick James McElroy, Sr., was born from the union of Roger McElroy and Gloria Julian in Chicago, Il. on July 28, 1968. Following Roger's passing, Gloria later married James Williams when Rick was 3 years old. Affectionately known as Ricky, his love for God and family from a very young age forged bonds that would last a lifetime. He spent his childhood in Blue Island, Il. and St. Louis, Mo., and later California, played football throughout his school years, college, semi-professionally, briefly with the Arizona Cardinals, and later, 30 plus years of coaching.

On November 4, 1993, Rick met the love of his life, Angie. Their whirlwind romance resulted in their union just 6 months later, 3 children, and 30 years of marriage. The family dynamic was noted by all, as Rick ensured protection and spiritual leadership over them continuously.

A well-respected leader in the sales industry, many referred to Rick as "a gentle giant" and one of the kindest and fairest Bosses they'd ever had; these connections remaining invaluable to him, and just days before his unexpected illness, he was working tirelessly to give them voice in new and exciting opportunities.

He was able to demonstrate his strong, spiritual faith in both body and mind, providing those around him with a sense of peace prior to his untimely transition on March 8, 2024: Wife, Angela; children–Kennedy, Kerrington, and Ricky Jr. (Haily); granddaughter, Payton; brothers-Reggie (Richel) and Corey (Monica); sister, Joy; Dad, James; Mother-in-law, Bonnie; Sisters-in-law-Pam (Van) and Kim (Kyle); brothers-in-law-Mike (Christye) and Steve (Tonia), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is now reunited with his mother, father, father-in-law, dear cousin, and aunts and uncles, who preceded him in eternity.

Rick's life and legacy is to be a beacon of how to live with God's purpose and to demonstrate love daily.
