Robert "Bob" Smith went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2020 at the age of 81, with his loving wife, and family by his side.

Bob was born to James Smith and Bobbie Powell Smith in Galveston, TX on April 10, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Jim Smith and sister, Mary Ann Sayre, his loving wife, Catherine and their two daughters Stephanie Smith and Susan Smith and son-in-law Steve Long, and his two loving grandchildren Ashley and Jonathan Smith.

Bob graduated in 1957 from Ball High School in Galveston, TX. After high school, Bob joined the United States Army. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas where he served as the Colonel's personal driver. He enjoyed his time spent in the military and was loved by his fellow soldiers.

Bob was always a hard worker and provided a good life for his family. He worked in the glass and plastic container industry for over 25 years. His job took him to many cities throughout the United States which led him to bring his family back to explore on summer vacations. He retired from Constar, Inc. in 2002.

His favorite sport was playing and watching golf. He followed many of the golf players who played in Houston. His fame to glory was hitting a "hole in one" when playing in a golf tournament in Galveston in 1970 (which is very hard to do for an amateur player). He had his name in the paper, the Galveston Daily News and was awarded many gifts from Galveston retailers.

Bob spent many hours working in his garden and enjoyed the fruits of his labor relaxing on the back patio surrounded by beautiful flowers and bird houses. He was an avid reader and loved history, war, and western books. Bob was in the final editing stages of his first book, "Texas Bragg" which will be published in the coming year.

He and his wife, Catherine enjoyed traveling to many different parts of the world from Hawaii, Alaska to Paris and Rome. One of the most meaningful trips they took, was a two-week tour to Europe for their 25th wedding anniversary. Bob always looked forward to planning summer vacations and introducing his family to new areas across the United States.

Bob was a kind, gentle man who dearly loved his family. He adored his loving wife Catherine of 56 years and his two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Susan.

He was thrilled to become a Grandpa and enjoyed every minute of the time he spent playing and laughing with his grandchildren Ashley and Jonathan who brought him so much joy.

He had many accomplishments, but what brought him the most pride and joy was his wife and family. He loved God and felt very blessed. He will be missed dearly, and in our hearts always and forever.
