Robert Edward Sloan was born August 12, 1935 in Peoria, IL to Gladys and Richard Sloan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his late wife Jackie Sloan. He is survived by his wife Corinne Smith Sloan, his children: Jim, Suzanne, Barbara, David and Fran and his grandchildren: Matthew, Amy, Noah, Sloan, Aidan, Thomas, Nathan, Andrew and Allison and his great granddaughter Charlotte.

Bob attended high school in Sands Springs, OK and college at the University of OK in Norman on an ROTC Scholarship. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the Navy and attended Navy Supply School in Athens, GA. While in Athens he met his first wife Jackie Franklin and they were married in 1959 and moved back to Sand Springs, OK. Bob attended law school at night at the University of Tulsa where he graduated in 1963.

Bob and Jackie had all three of their children in Tulsa OK; their first child, Jim in 1960, their second child Suzanne in 1968 and their third child, Barbara in 1970. When Bob graduated from law school in 1963, he accepted a job with Amerada Petroleum in Tulsa OK. One of his first projects was to take the lead on an international joint project with Amoco that would set the stage for his entire career. When Amerada merged with Hess Oil and Chemical, Bob was transferred to the Hess headquarters in New York City and moved the family to New Jersey. After a few years, tired of his New York commute, Bob moved his family to Houston; and after a few intermediate steps landed his dream job with Amoco in their International Law Department. Bob's job took him to many foreign countries over his 25 years of service with Amoco.

In 1990, Bob lost his first wife but found love again and married Corinne Smith Sloan in 1993. With this marriage he gained an additional son and daughter and eventually four additional grandchildren

Bob finally retired in 2000 from international law and settled in at home playing tennis, playing bridge and day stock trading. He enjoyed his bible studies and church services. Corinne and Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time in Port Aransas when they were able to get away.

Bob was a huge sports fan but had a special place in his heart for the Chicago Cubs. His greatest childhood memories were spending summers with his Grandmother on her farm in central Illinois. They would listen to the Cubs games together every afternoon. His love of sports was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Many conversations centered around "last night's games" and season highlights.

Bob will be missed most of all for his love of family, his gentle nature and his compassion for others.

A Memorial Service and reception will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Northwoods Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his name to the Houston Area Parkinson Society.
