Obituary

Robert John Simon, resident of Houston Texas, died Thursday morning July 13th 2017 at Pathways Memory care facility from complications of Alzheimer's.

Robert was born on July 12, 1931 in Bismarck, North Dakota, He was one of six children of Aloysius and Mary Simon.

He attended and graduated High School at the Crosier Preparatory Seminary in Minnesota as well as graduating with a BS Degree from St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Following his graduation, he married Norma Smith of Mandan, North Dakota and entered the Army during the Korean War. For 2 years he was stationed at FT. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Upon his discharge in 1956, he and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois where Robert began a career at the First National Bank of Chicago. He helped bring the bank into the computer age by developing and heading the Management Science Division which became a model for other banks. During this time, he graduated from the School of Banking and attended The Illinois Institute Of Technology. In 1959, he moved his family to Arlington Heights, Illinois where they lived until 1980.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's he was recruited to help start a company for computer sharing services before being recruited by Harris Trust Savings and Loan in Berwynn, Illinois to continue to write new software for their Accounts Payable and Receivable Division. In 1980, he went to work for ADP Trift Systems in Houston, Texas as part of a software sale agreement with Harris Trust Savings and Loan to create their payroll services software. He and Norma moved to Spring, Texas where he worked for ADP Thrift until 1986 when he left to start his own Software consulting company, Parrot Software, which he ran until his retirement in 1990. In 2012, he and Norma moved to Tomball, Texas where he lived until 2016 when it was necessary for him to be moved into Pathways Memory Care in Houston.

His hobbies included golf, and home projects. He could build or fix anything and never found a project too daunting to conquer. He was also a man who loved food, especially Norma's cooking! He was know to all as having a smile from "ear to ear" and expressed his delight in things as being "outta sight"!

Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters along with being fully engaged in his local Catholic Parishes as a Sacristan, Lector and Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister. His joy was attending daily Mass, leading the rosary and attending Eucharistic Adoration. It is noted that the date of his passing was the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima's 3rd apparition, a special day where he and his wife often led the rosary in her honor.

Robert was currently a member of St. Anthony of Padua in The Woodlands, Texas.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Norma of more than 63 years, five children-Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) Pipenhagen of Winchester, California, Robert of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Thomas (Martha) Stassen of Vacaville, California, Mrs. Chris (Barbara) Johnson of Holdingford, Minnesota and Mrs. Mark (Paula) Lee of The Woodlands, Texas who are proud and grateful to have had him for their father! He has thirteen grandchildren who loved his laughter and kindness and six great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his older sister, Margaret Scheller of Minnesota and younger brother James of California/Oregon.

The Memorial Service and Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 18th starting with a rosary at 10 a.m. and the funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 7801 Bay Branch Dr. The Woodlands, TX 77382.   A reception will be held immediately following Mass at the Church. Following the reception, Robert will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038.
