Robert E Lee III (Gene) passed away peacefully at his home in Cypress on September 22,2019 after a short battle with cancer.

Gene was born May 31,1950 in Greenville, SC to Robert and Alice Julian Lee. He grew up in the Carolinas but called Texas home when he first set foot on its soil in 1974. At a Boy Scout camp he discovered geology and that determined his career choice. After graduating from Western Carolina University (BS Geology) Gene came to Texas on a bet and a promise of a job in Midland Tx. Thus, began a distinguished 40-year career in the oil industry. He retired from TEMA Oil & Gas Co. in 2015.

Gene's love of geology and the outdoors influenced all facets of his life. He encouraged his sons' outdoor adventures by coaching sports teams and by being a Boy Scout leader. Family vacations included hiking, camping and visiting parklands in many states. He enjoyed documenting his outdoor experiences with photographs. He instilled in his family the love of the outdoors and God's magnificent creation.

Accompanying Gene on his life's adventure was his wife of 47 years, Jana Holt Lee who survives him. Surviving also are sons Robert Benjamin Lee (Irene) and Jonathan Eric Lee. Along with cherished granddaughter Eleanor Poppy Lee. Surviving too is sister Barbara (Richard) Sinclair. He was predeceased by his parents and brother William B Lee.

Visitation (9:00am) and a Memorial service (10:00am) will be held September 30, 2019 at the Klein Funeral Home 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065.
