Obituary

Robert (Bob) John Kornsey passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, August 13, 2020.  He was born on April 27, 1937 to loving parents, John and Jean Kornsey, in Philadelphia PA.  Bob was older brother to sister Linda and brother Alan.  Growing up in the church youth group, Robert met the love of his life, Norma, when he was 16 and she was 14.  They have been together ever since and celebrated their 61 st anniversary the end of last year.

After high school, Robert joined the Army and was stationed at West Point in the engineering program where he was an instructor.  He became a father with the birth of his first daughter Sharon, who was followed by three sisters, Diane, Lorraine and Katherine over the next few years.  Since he was young, Robert always knew he wanted to be a mechanical engineer.  After the Army, he started his career as a draftsman while pursuing his college degree.  After working hard at night school, Bob graduated from Drexel University, and with this, his amazing career started only continued to flourish.  Career opportunities moved him and his family to Virginia for a few years, then oversees to Holland, and eventually moving back to Virginia.

Years later, another amazing opportunity was presented to Bob and Norma which moved them to Houston where they would spend the next 24 years with family nearby.

Due to Bob's travels, he made friends in just about every continent, from his second family in South Korea to his friends in Italy, India, England, Canada, Mexico, throughout the US, and so many other places.

Robert will be sorely missed not only by his loving wife and daughters, but also by his granddaughters…..Rachel, Samantha, Heather A, and Heather E, son-in-laws…..Van, Jerry and Dave, his sisters and brother-in-law…Patricia, Elizabeth, and George as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and California.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, as well as his beautiful daughter, Lorraine.  It gives the family comfort to know they are all together once again.

Bob was a huge personality who would give a stranger the shirt off his back, had a wicked sense of humor, was a genius at math, enjoyed classical music and Barbara Streisand, appreciated a good gin martini and aged scotch, was as avid reader and a huge fan of sci fi movies, a former soccer star, loved golfing and wood-working, but treasured nothing more than to be with his family and friends.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother, friend and mentor…his passing is a huge loss to all who know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider donating to your local hospice center or the American Heart Association in Robert's name.
