Robert Michael Coffey, Sr., passed away on July 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He spent the last months of his life at the home of his grandson Caeden where he received excellent care.

Bob was born to his parents Bob and Louise Coffey in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in Boerne, Texas, where he played both football and marched in the band at all football games for four years. During his high school years, he was invited to attend a school for the gifted called Keystone Academy to complete some of his coursework. At the age of seventeen, Bob graduated from Boerne High School and then enlisted in the Air Force. He served as a communications technician in various locations which included Vietnam and Turkey.

During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Vavala. Bob and Pat were married for almost fifty years. They raised their children, Michelle and Rob, in San Antonio and Cypress. Both Bob and Pat enjoyed many activities during their time together.  At the Coffey house, there was always a place at the table if you wanted to play cards or dominoes. They also liked to travel and fish.

They founded Blue Bonnet Beagle Rescue and were awarded an AKC Breeder of Merit for their Champion Irish Coffey Beagles. Bob and Pat participated in AKC events nationwide.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Louise Coffey, his wife Patricia Vavala Coffey, his daughter Michelle Coffey Parker, his son Robert Michael Coffey, Jr., and his sister- in-law, Pam Vavala. Even though Bob had so much loss in his immediate family, he had incredible strength.

Bob is survived by his grandsons Caeden Coffey and Jonathan Parker; his sisters Joan Williams and Charlene Jones; his brother Dan Coffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was a very intelligent man who had a successful professional life. Some of the gifts that he had were in mathematics, problem solving, and critical thinking. After the Air Force, he accepted a position at Honeywell where he installed and repaired electronic devices. As his career progressed, his expertise was recognized, and Bob travelled worldwide building clean rooms for hospitals.

One example of Bob's generous and helpful nature was the three-week trip he made with Randy and Marie Brannen to China.  Bob travelled with the Brannen's to provide support as they successfully adopted Katie and Sawyer while these two children were in orphanages 1200 miles apart.

The family would like to express their appreciation and admiration to Caeden and Anaih for the special care they gave to Bob during his illness.
