ROBERT FREDERICK MEYER
NOVEMBER 23, 1938 – May 30, 2022
NOW FOREVER WITH JESUS
Robert Frederick Meyer, son of John Frederick Meyer and Amanda Catherine (Schultz) Meyer born in Watertown, Wisconsin on November 23, 1938. He was received into God's family by the washing of Holy baptism on December 18, 1938 at St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church Watertown, WI by Pastor Paul Lorenz.
He was confirmed in his Christian faith on May 18, 1952 in Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church Thiensville, WI by Pastor Frederick Tabbert. His memory verse was Psalm 37 verse 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and he shall bring it to pass.
Grades K-4 (1943-1948) were attended in Montello, WI. Grades 5-8 (1948-1952) were attended in Thiensville, WI. Grades 9-12 (1952-1956) were attended at Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, WI. College were attended at Doctor Martin Luther College (DMLC) New Ulm MN where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science in Education (1956-1960).
His first call was at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Norfolk, Nebraska teaching grades 5 and 6 from 1960-1965. He served as organist and choir director and was active in men's club, dart ball, and book store etc.
Robert first met his future wife when he was a freshman in college at DMLC. Doretta Ruth (Engel) Meyer, a minister's daughter, who was a senior at Doctor Martin Luther High School. After Robert had one year of batching and Doretta taught one year in California, they married July 16, 1961. Their first child was Jeffery Scott Meyer born May 27, 1962 in Norfolk, Nebraska.
From there Robert went to Bethlehem Lutheran School in Menomonee Falls, WI where he served as principal and taught grades 7 and 8 from 1965-1970. He served as organist and choir director and was active in dart ball and softball etc. Here their second child, Laurie Lynn (Meyer) Zander was born November 21, 1965. Two years later Gregory Todd Meyer was born November 27, 1967.
In 1970 he choose a different career path and started working as a paper and packaging salesman.
In 1981 he moved to Texas working for a different company and is still working selling paper and packaging.
In 1982 he joined Abiding Word Lutheran Church and became a choir director, bell choir director for 27 years, and organist for the church. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and being captain of the team.
Doretta and Robert sang with the Houston Lutheran Choral to help celebrate the 100 th anniversary of Carnegie Hall in 1991.
In 2009 he transferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and became the choir and bell choir director for the church.
His wife Doretta died September 1, 2017.
Robert never retired and enjoyed the many years of companionship in all the many friends that he made throughout the years.
The Lord called Robert to rest on May 30, 2022, at the age of 83 years 6 months and 6 days.
He is survived by his three children Jeffrey (Ingrid) Meyer of The Woodlands; TX. Laurie (James) Zander of Jackson, WI; Gregory (Shanna) Meyer of The Woodlands, TX; by his 8 grandchildren Ryan Meyer of Palm Beach, Florida, Katerina Meyer of the Woodlands TX, Jennifer Zander of West Allis, WI; Ashley (Robert) of Mequon, WI; and Nicole Zander of Jackson, WI; Maycie Meyer of Houston, TX; Summer Meyer of The Woodlands, TX; and Taylor Meyer of The Woodlands, TX; Other survivors include great-grandchildren Sawyer James Groth.
He was preceded in death by his mother Amanda and father John, his wife, his brother and sister-in-law, and nephew.
His mortal remains will be committed to the ground with his wife Doretta in Klein Memorial Cemetery, Magnolia, TX, in the sure hope of the resurrection to eternal life.
