Robert (Bob) V. Battey, 88, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away at home on October
30, 2017, surrounded by family.  He was born on July 10, 1929, in Wenatchee,
Washington, to Robert Owen and Pearl Battey.

Bob had received his pilot's license shortly before graduating from Renton High
School and began working for Caribbean Air in Maine, later returning to Washington
to enlist in the Air Force.  He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952 in
Occupied Japan and the Korean Offensive.  Bob received his Bachelor of Science in
Aeronautical Engineering from University of Texas in 1957, and received his Masters
in Public Science Policy and Administration from the University of New Mexico in
1969.

Bob began his career with General Dynamics in California working on performance
capability and structural design requirements for the Atlas weapon system for the
Mercury Project.  In 1962, Bob joined McDonnell Aircraft Co. in St. Louis, Missouri
and then joined NASA covering Apollo Operations Analysis with special emphasis on
the Lunar Module at NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas.  Bob continued
working at NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, for 31 years of professional
engineering and management in support of the Mercury, Apollo, Space Shuttle Program,
and Space Station Program offices.  After retiring from NASA, Bob became an
associate with Eagle Engineering retiring again in 1997.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia Lowther Otterson, and his sons Mark Allen of
Cincinnati, Ohio and James Michael of Houston, Texas.  He is also survived by
stepsons James Patrick and wife, Lara Otterson of Decatur, Georgia, Timothy Michael
and wife, Tracy Otterson of Alvin, Texas, and Gregory Sean and wife, Laura Otterson
of Katy, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Also surviving is
sister Nancy Porter of Washington and brother Richard and wife, Karen Clark of
Buckley, Washington; brothers-in-law William and wife, Donna Lowther of Haddonfield,
New Jersey and Kenneth and wife, Cathy Lowther of Ocean City, New Jersey; cousins
Ann and husband, Alton Gregor of Bellingham, Washington and Lorraine and husband, Al
Still of Creswell, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A reception will be held at Klein Funeral Home, 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, Texas on
Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m.
